PM-ing in ai/ml
August 2021 - Present
getting started: navigating NLP with raw text from customers
In 2021, I started my journey with Machine Learning at Capital One. PM’s rarely looked at existing customer satisfaction surveys on Web and Mobile, as the noise overpowered the value it brought — categories were made by a simple “keyword match”, let alone comments left with misspelling, Spanish, and feature names that we didn’t know of.
I took on a team of engineers to work with a Mobile & Web Engineering Manager and ML Engineer to create a classification model specific to our features. And that’s when I first hopped on to learn about NLP and worked with Jupyter notebook to play with the models. We faced challenges with efficient labelling, identifying an effective hierarchy that encompasses all digital features owned by Capital One, and what our customers could possibly be calling our features in the outside world. However, with weeks of research and the influence of our enterprise PMs, a product was born to reduce PM’s time by a ton!
Inspired by the experience, I joined the UC Berkeley Executive Education’s program on Machine Learning for Product Managers Certificate, where I got to learn more about the machine learning pipeline and how it fits within Capital One’s ecosystem.
Broadening Horizons: Tackling Complex Ecosystems at Apple
As a MBA Student, I joined Apple for the summer to work with the backbones of all Machine Learning at Apple — compute resources. As an Engineering Program Manager, I navigated a new scale of complexity, interviewing global managers to understand how centralized resource management can balance the diverse needs of all organizations at Apple, whether it was for ML Research, building new features, Hardware Research, and financial projections. By unifying data visualization across ecosystems, I generated actionable insights that influenced global priorities. Managing technical decisions and development across three engineering teams was an exercise in building trust and clarity in high-stakes environments. My role required not just technical expertise but also the ability to bring diverse teams together around shared goals.
Leading Innovation: Driving AI Applications at Blank Slate Technologies
Today, as the Head of AI Applications at Blank Slate, I’m channeling my experiences into crafting transformative products to help our clients work more intelligently. As the sole product lead, I’ve developed the company’s first LLM content generation feature, overseeing the entire lifecycle from model development to premium-tier pricing strategies for high-profile clients.
consulting FOR NON-PROFIT
Oct 2021 - May 2023
Bridging Technology and Strategy: Driving Post-Pandemic Recovery
As a Technology & Marketing Consultant at Compass Consulting, I leveraged my technical expertise and strategic mindset to address complex challenges for diverse clients. One of my most rewarding projects was developing a post-pandemic market re-entry roadmap for a performing arts center. By conducting in-depth market segmentation analysis and crafting a value-driven branding and pricing strategy, I helped the organization project a 15% capture of untapped market opportunities. This work not only demonstrated my ability to balance creativity with analytical rigor but also solidified my passion for helping clients navigate uncertainty and emerge stronger.
Strengthening Infrastructure for Non-Profit Impact
In parallel, I partnered with a non-profit organization to tackle critical operational inefficiencies and data security vulnerabilities affecting over 300 volunteers. By designing a digital authentication restructuring plan and leading the change management process, I enhanced case management efficiency and safeguarded sensitive information. This experience deepened my understanding of how robust technological solutions can empower mission-driven organizations to achieve their goals more effectively.
starting OUT IN PRODUCT
August 2021
At Capital One, I began my journey by tackling complex challenges in customer insights and experience. As a Senior Product Manager, I leveraged data and AI to drive meaningful outcomes, such as identifying $200M in digital expansion opportunities and eliminating 45% of manual processes through AI-driven solutions. These experiences sharpened my ability to balance strategic vision with operational efficiency while collaborating across functions like engineering, marketing, and legal.
My leadership in launching a multi-product payments platform demonstrated a knack for scaling innovation. By spearheading the program’s first modular A/B testing infrastructure, I cut time-to-market by fivefold, fostering a culture of rapid experimentation and learning. These successes reinforced my belief in the power of user-centric design and data-driven insights to drive engagement, as evidenced by an 81% growth in monthly user interactions.
finding my fit in engineering
August 2020 - August 2021
Building a Strong Foundation: Engineering for Impact
My engineering journey at Capital One began with a focus on creating intuitive, high-impact mobile experiences. As a Senior Software Engineer for Android and iOS applications, I was driven by a passion for solving complex user challenges through thoughtful design and technical innovation. By diving deep into customer research and user adoption analysis, I introduced an industry-unique mobile interaction that improved new-user onboarding completion by 23%. This project solidified my ability to bridge the gap between technical execution and user-centric product design.
Beyond technical contributions, I embraced leadership opportunities to enhance team dynamics and productivity. Acting as the lead representative of a 60-member Technology Development Program, I spearheaded initiatives to improve developer retention. By identifying infrastructural investment opportunities and optimizing training effectiveness, I helped foster an environment where engineers could thrive, reinforcing the importance of mentorship and continuous improvement in technical teams.
Mastering the Art of Scalable Solutions
These experiences highlighted my strength in tackling both technical and organizational challenges, equipping me with the tools to create solutions that scale across user bases and engineering teams alike. My ability to combine hands-on coding expertise with a strategic lens for organizational growth set the stage for future roles where I could make an even broader impact.
passion for human centered design
August 2017 - May 2019
My journey into human-centered design began during my time at UIUC, where I was first introduced to the principles of user experience and design thinking. Intrigued by how design could bridge the gap between technology and human needs, I dove into coursework and hands-on projects that allowed me to explore the power of putting the user at the center of problem-solving.
To deepen my understanding and apply what I learned, I started taking on freelance projects during my time at UIUC. These opportunities gave me a chance to work with diverse clients, tackling real-world challenges across industries. Whether it was refining digital experiences or rethinking how users interacted with technology, these freelance roles allowed me to experiment with creative solutions and build a foundation in user-centric problem solving—skills that have become integral to my professional growth.
